Especially if, at the same time, you want to pay attention to a healthy diet. In this article we present you different alternatives for a healthy breakfast if you suffer from an intolerance.

Two intolerances occur particularly often among us humans: Lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance, also called coeliac disease. Since these are so frequent in our society, we have devoted this article to these intolerances in particular.

All information about lactose intolerance

“I’m lactose intolerant” – surely almost everybody has heard this sentence already. This is because the number of people with lactose intolerance is constantly increasing. In German-speaking countries, about 15 percent of the population cannot tolerate lactose, or only in small quantities. Worldwide, the number is an unbelievable 75 percent.

What is lactose intolerance?

Milk sugar, also known as lactose, is the type of carbohydrate contained in milk. Whether from humans in the form of breast milk or from animals like classic cow’s milk, lactose is a component of it.

Normally, lactose is broken down in the small intestine by the enzyme lactase and then utilised. However, if this process does not function properly, complaints such as abdominal pain, diarrhoea or nausea can occur – this is known as lactose intolerance.

Healthy breakfast with lactose intolerance

However, anyone suffering from lactose intolerance does not have to do without a healthy breakfast. Milk is not the online option to prepare our porridges with. A great alternative are plant-based drinks. You can even make them yourself and start drinking oat drink instead of cow’s milk.

Everything you need to know about gluten intolerance

Celiac disease, or gluten intolerance, is the second most common intolerance in humans. While most people can consume gluten-containing products without worrying about it, some people suffer from gluten intolerance. Depending on the severity of the intolerance, people affected should therefore eat a completely gluten-free diet or at least one that is as gluten-free as possible.

What exactly does gluten intolerance mean?

Gluten cannot be properly absorbed and broken down by the body. Celiac disease is a mixture of allergy or intolerance and autoimmune disease. It is an immune reaction of the intestine, which subsequently becomes a chronic inflammation.

The symptoms of gluten intolerance can range from constipation to flatulence, diarrhoea or cramps. Gluten is found in many different types of grain, such as wheat and rye, but also barley and spelt. All products that contain even one component of a grain containing gluten should be strictly avoided if you suffer from an intolerance – this is also the only form of therapy that can prevent further damage to the intestines.
