A tidy shelf, a tidy life. And as with every saying, there is a grain of truth in it. It’s not going to work wonders on your mood if you open your kitchen closets in the morning and you can’t find your favourite muesli, your toppings went missing again (even though you could have sworn you still saw them the day before) or –even worse – half of your stuff comes flying in your face.
A well-organized shelf that holds everything you need for a good morning is the basis for you leaving the house with a smile on your face and saving some precious early-morning minutes.
So here are our top tips on how to spruce things up on your breakfast shelf:
1. Bring together what belongs together: You love putting nuts, seeds, spices and maple syrup in your muesli? Well then, keep all of those things on the same shelf. You could even put your favourite bowl right next to them. Same thing goes for porridge + porridge pot.
2. First things first: Think about it: which ingredients do you use most frequently? Put those in front of the others and leave things you use only once a month in the back. If you realise that you never one or two products, don’t buy them again. Everything that has already gone bad, goes immediately.
3. Feast on the rainbow: What goes for books also goes for cereal! So sort and stack your breakfast ingredients by colour and get happy just looking at your breakfast rainbow every time you lay eyes on it. Just organise your cereal boxes on the shelf like you would do books, with the back/sides of their boxes facing towards you.
4. Jars, baby: Who likes looking at things that are almost empty? Invest in a small collection of different-looking, air tight jars and containers that will help you keep things organised and add a splash of colour, too. They’re not see-through? Easy fix: add a label!
5. Get inspired: You’re standing in front of a luscious selection but you can’t decide what to have for breakfast? Just put some breakfast-cookbooks within reach so you can always get inspired within a matter of seconds. You can never go wrong with Coffeetable Books or your favourite magazine, for instance.
Get sunshine from your kitchen no matter the weather
6. Keep ‘em coming: Keep track of your supplies by pinning a small notepad to your fridge (use magnets!) and write down ingredients you use up. That way you’ll always know what you need to stock up on the next time you do your groceries and you’ll never ever end up without muesli, milk, or behold, coffee.
