Situated in the middle of the Tyrolean Alps, we are naturally drawn to the mountains this time of year. There we can pursue our favourite winter sports and enjoy the fantastic snow-covered landscapes. Besides skiing we are also big fans of snowboarding, ski touring or sledding. The beautiful slopes offer you the chance to pursue many mountain sports of your choice. We introduce you to the most beautiful skiing areas and huts around our home Tirol.
But first breakfast – for a high performance day you need the right nutrients. With a balanced breakfast, rich in protein and fibre, we can pursue our favourite sport for hours. Now nothing stands in your way to enjoy a wonderful day on the mountain!
Top 3: Our favourite skiing areas
You don’t really need much for a day on the mountain. Beside the right equipment and a nutritious breakfast, there are a lot of other tips for sports in the winter time, among others, warming up and the right breathing.
Whether for locals or for your skiing holiday in Austria, our favourite skiing areas are practically right on our doorstep:
Kitzbühel – Kirchberg
The dreamy ski area in Kitzbühel extends over seven communities and two federal states and offers over 50 lifts on more than 200 kilometres of slopes. Kitzbühel is not only known for the legendary Hahnenkamm downhill run. The ski area offers, in addition to other events, over 60 great huts and skiing fun for the whole family.
Until the beginning of May you can explore the fantastic slopes and the excellent gastronomy. Those who want to collect a few kilometres of slopes can continue from Kirchberg, for example, to Saalbach or to the Wilder Kaiser, in Brixental.
A little further on, in the neighbouring province of Salzburg, you will find the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. It is one of the largest combined skiing areas. 270 km of slopes, 70 lifts and 60 huts invite you to stay and enjoy sports. The diversified skiing area offers something for everyone, slopes with different degrees of difficulty for beginners to professionals, snowparks, funslopes and much more.
Hochkönig – Saalfelden
The skiing area with about 120 km of slopes connects the villages Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach and is perfect for a day trip. Other winter sports can also be practiced here, for example, the idyllic village of Maria Alm offers cross-country skiers the most kilometres of trails in the region.
The best huts to stop by
A stop for lunch in a cosy alpine hut is simply part of mountain sports. From rustic to modern, there is a suitable hut for everyone. Our favourite huts around Tyrol are the tom Almhütte am Hochkönig, the Mama Thresl and Hendl Fischerei in Saalfelden and the PlatzlAlm in the Hochzillertal.
The alpine hut is located on the Hochkönig and can be reached via the Natrunbahn from Maria Alm. It combines modern architecture and rustic hut charm. Every room is furnished with love for detail and has cool accents, for example chairlift chairs which serve as bar stools.
In addition to the beautiful mountain panorama, you can enjoy the delicious Alm Brunch with regional products. Selected Verival products can also be found at toms Brunch.
Mama Thresl & Hendl Fischerei
Mama Thresl and her team spoil visitors with culinary delicacies, a relaxed atmosphere and cool events. From here you can start your skiing holiday in the fantastic ski region Saalbach Hinterglemm. With the motto “urban soul meets the alps” they create a tension between tradition and modernity and show how contemporary hotel business in the Alps can do without conventions and clichés.
Under no circumstances should you miss the breathtaking view of the Hendl FIscherei. The stylish ski lodge, which is located directly at the Asitz mountain station, delights visitors with cool events, the finest delicacies and DJ sounds. When the sun comes out, the glass roof and the glass walls of the hut are simply moved away so that you can enjoy and admire the beautiful weather and the fantastic mountain scenery even better.
The beautiful PlatzlAlm is located at 1790 m in the Hochzillertal. An inviting hut with rustic furniture, rustic Tyrolean cosiness, zeitgeist and modern comfort awaits you.
