In the following blog post you will learn about the benefits of oatmeal, how you can live healthily with it and how oatmeal can even help you lose weight.
The healthy thing about oats is the energy-giving power of important nutrients, minerals and fibre. The actual nutritional value for health was only discovered about 3000 years ago.
The resistance in agricultural cultivation and the richness in nutrients therefore make oats very popular for farmers.
Just a small portion of oats (30-40 grams) or porridge daily is enough to supply the body with nutrients and vital substances. Oats are even used in diets. Namely in the oatmeal diet.
40 grams of oat flakes already contain just under 8 micrograms of biotin, which is a quarter of the recommended daily amount of biotin. Biotin is healthy and very important for nails, skin and hair.
It protects from hair loss, makes the nails firmer and the hair shiny. Another messenger substance that oats provide to our body is zinc, which is an essential trace element that is important for bones and teeth.
Good for the nerves!
A portion of oatmeal also has a positive effect on our nerves. The nervous system benefits not only from biotin, but also from the B vitamins that the cereal provides.
Vitamin B1 is not known as a nerve vitamin for nothing, because a deficiency of this vitamin leads to dizziness, headaches and even neurological disorders in humans.
Vitamin B6 is also supplied to the body through the oat flakes, which also has a positive effect on the entire organism. Vitamin B6, like vitamin B1, supports the nervous system and helps the body to produce blood.
Iron supplier and cholesterol reducer
In addition, 40 grams of oatmeal provides a lot of iron. Consequently, the cereal is a healthy meat alternative and a good source of iron for vegetarians as well.
The soluble fibre that the cereal brings helps to bring high cholesterol levels back to normal. This also lowers blood fat levels and reduces the risk of heart attack.
Especially for people suffering from diabetes, oats offer a chance, together with the magnesium content, to lower blood sugar levels. The fibre in oats is called beta glucans, and it keeps you full for a long time. They help above all in losing weight.
The Scottish porridge is very easy and quick to prepare. You only need three ingredients for the basic recipe and then you can add your favourite fruits and spices.
Bring the milk (or plant-based drink) to a boil in a pot.
Add the oat flakes and turn the heat down to a low temperature.
Let the porridge simmer for about 5 minutes (stir constantly with a wooden spoon or a spurtle so that the milk does not burn and the porridge gets a nice creamy texture).
Remove the pot from the stove and allow the porridge to simmer until it has the right consistency
Add a pinch of salt at the end. This enhances the taste of the porridge even more, whether you want to enjoy your porridge with sweet or savoury toppings.
Digestive aid
Beta Glucan not only helps the body to reduce high cholesterol levels, but also has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract. The oatmeal is not given to the very young in the diet for nothing or is offered to sick people as a light diet.
In addition, oatmeal is beneficial and soothing for the entire digestion. For example, they can help with stomach aches by binding excess stomach acid and thus ensuring a balance in the gastrointestinal tract.
