Today, oats are one of the healthiest and most nutritious grains par excellence. People began cultivating oats about 3000 years ago. It thrives on poor soils and is very hardy. Oat grains have a high content of dietary fibre and minerals.

This superfood can be used to conjure up the most delicious dishes. It not only tastes good, but also fills you up for a long time. They are used in medicine and in the cosmetics industry in the form of extracts.

Why are oat flakes so healthy?

Oats (Avena sativa) is a low-gluten whole grain with many valuable ingredients. Oats contain fibre, minerals (magnesium, phosphorus, iron and zinc), proteins and many vitamins (B1 and B6). The combination of these substances makes oats so healthy. The dietary fibre beta-glucan lowers blood sugar levels and regulates insulin balance. Therefore, people with diabetes mellitus type 2 can also enjoy oatmeal.

Oats Nutrients

The nutritious flakes influence cholesterol levels counteract vascular deposits and thus ensure a healthy cardiovascular system. Oat flakes contain many antioxidants that improve blood flow and lower blood pressure. The avenanthramides are anti-inflammatory, serve to protect the cells and prevent arteriosclerosis.

What positive effect does oatmeal have on the skin?

Oatmeal with its rich ingredients is an effective skin therapeutic agent. As a food in the form of muesli or porridge, the biotin contained in oatmeal ensures healthy skin, nails and hair. Oatmeal, ground into extract, is also used externally for skin diseases such as neurodermatitis, psoriasis or eczema.

The fats, carbohydrates and proteins in the extract prevent water loss and maintain skin moisture. The proteins also stabilise the pH value of the skin. Saponins cleanse the skin, flavonoids and vitamins soothe it. The antioxidant avenanthramide reduces itching and redness. In addition, the substances contained in oatmeal have an anti-inflammatory effect and thus promote wound healing.

How does oatmeal affect the intestines?

The dietary fibres contained in oat flakes promote digestion and protect the intestines. The breakdown of the soluble dietary fibres in the intestine is carried out by bacteria. Short-chain fatty acids are produced, which protect the intestinal flora, bind harmful substances and thus maintain a healthy defence system in the intestine.

Studies have also shown that they promote the growth of the bacteria responsible for healthy intestinal flora.

Oatmeal can even help you lose weight?

The fibre contained in oatmeal makes you feel full for hours, and the body does not feel hungry. In addition, oatmeal keeps the blood sugar level constant because less insulin is released. The cereal also has a high protein content, which stimulates the metabolism, and the body uses more energy.

The contained magnesium promotes the oxygen supply in the cells and thus the fat burning. All these factors together cause reduced food intake and increased burning of supplied calories. Therefore, the cereal product is suitable for healthy weight loss.
