Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There are so many different dishes you can eat after getting up. And because breakfast is so important for a good start into the day, you should pay attention to what you eat.

It is not impossible to follow a healthy diet and still have a tasty and balanced breakfast. Today, we will introduce you to some options on how to avoid added sugar for breakfast or how you can completely avoid sugar in the morning.

Our sugar consumption in the morning has effects on our body throughout the day. If you have a sweet breakfast, it will have an effect throughout the whole day and you will always have a greater desire for other sugary products.

Often the industrial sugar content in yoghurt or breakfast cereals is very high (up to 34%!) However, the easily digestible carbohydrates of conventional sugar are quickly broken down and so you get hungry again quickly. The feeling of satiety doesn’t last long – so you generally eat more during the day. This is often difficult to reconcile with a diet. But how can you prevent this? And what can you eat without consuming sugar immediately after getting up?

Sweet, but without added sugar

Just because something is sugar-free does not mean that it does not taste good. Especially at breakfast, many people like to eat jam and honey, therefore start the day sweet. But how can you pay attention to a low sugar breakfast in the morning?

1. Muesli with fruit and yoghurt

With muesli you should make sure that you have the unsweetened version at home. The same applies to yoghurt, as these products can very often contain added sugar. Muesli tastes best if you soak it a little beforehand. If you would like it a little sweeter, you can always add a dash of coconut or almond milk and a pinch of cinnamon. In our assortment you will find some muesli variations without added sugar!

2. Any kind of porridge

Porridge is currently on everyone’s lips and the hype breakfast par excellence. The fact that porridge is healthy is now also widely known. Porridge is also quite easy to prepare. If you pay close attention to calories, you can easily prepare porridge with water. To improve the taste even more, you can add fresh fruit but our favourite is porridge with almond or coconut milk. A pinch of cinnamon and you have a sweet breakfast that does not consists of industrial sugar.

With our organic porridges we pay attention to a low sugar content and a delicious taste with high-quality organic ingredients.

3. Overnight oats

Many people do not have enough time in the morning to prepare their porridge on the stove or with hot water (even if it really does not take long). One way to avoid this are the so-called overnight oats. If you soak oat flakes in liquid overnight, they will be as tasty as a freshly made porridge. To prepare overnight oats you take a bowl, fill it with oats and cover them with liquid – this way you have a delicious cold porridge in the morning, without any stress. For even better overnight oats add a pinch of salt, cinnamon and maybe a little bit of peanut butter (organic).

How to have a completely sugar-free diet in the morning

1. Wholemeal bread with different toppings

However, if you want to completely renounce any kind of sugar in the morning and want to maximize your healthy diet, you should try these breakfast options:

2. Eggs in any form

Eggs are not suitable for vegans. However, eggs contain no sugar and are therefore an extremely nutritious, sugar-free alternative for in the morning. Be it a hard-boiled or soft-boiled egg, scrambled eggs, fried eggs or an omelette. With eggs you can let your imagination run wild. Just a fried egg with salt and pepper? Scrambled eggs with vegetables? Or maybe an omelette with finely chopped spring onions? There should be something for everyone here. And if you want to pay attention to sustainability, it’s best to buy eggs locally or at least make sure that the eggs are organic.

3. Avocado

Last but not least, there is a superfood on our list. The avocado. With many healthy fats, the avocado is a great source of energy. Furthermore, 100 grams of avocado already cover 30% of the daily requirement of vitamin K. Furthermore, avocado aids digestion and contains many antioxidants. As a small extra bonus, the avocado also lowers cholesterol. So, the avocado really deserves the title superfood. Avocado can be prepared as a spread for bread or can be enjoyed pure with a little oil and salt.

As you can see, there are actually many breakfast options without added sugar. Our article gives a little insight and is meant to be a little inspiration. If you are now curious to try out a porridge or muesli without added sugar, take a look at our online shop.
